Events Illuminating the human condition. Jaspers’ tradition in dialogue with Japan

October 25th, 2024. 15:00 ~ October 26th, 2024. 18:30 JST

Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture (Room 217), Nagoya, Japan, online

Karl Jaspers made a significant contribution to the intellectual panorama of the 20th century, inaugurating a fruitful tradition in the West and a still active dialogue with the East. This conference explores the contribution of the existential perspective of Jaspers’ tradition to the reflection on the human condition, seeking to point out the originality of Karl Jaspers and his former students Hannah Arendt and Jeanne Hersch on the one hand, and to investigate the significance of such originality in the Kyoto School and the Japanese philosophical tradition on the other hand. This conference is divided into three thematic sections to better articulate this reflection on the human condition: Religion (25th of October, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm JST), Technology (26th of October, from 9:30 am to 12:30 am JST), Sciences (26th of October, from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm JST).
